How the news lock works
The dashboard sets a global MT5 variable:
NEWS_TRADE_BLOCK_UNTIL
Compatible Expert Advisors read this variable and automatically stop opening trades. For EAs that don't support it, an optional hard mode can close charts entirely during blocked periods.
Manual trade protection
No EA can stop you physically pressing Buy or Sell — but the dashboard can react instantly:
- Detect manual trades opened during restricted periods
- Close those positions automatically
- Delete pending manual orders
- Apply protection to manual trades only
Especially around NFP, CPI, FOMC and central-bank speeches.
Automatic SL/TP protection
Open trade, get distracted, forget the stop. The dashboard can optionally protect manual trades that have no SL or TP:

Important MT5 limitations (transparency)
MT5 can't disable the global Algo Trading button
That's a MetaTrader limitation. The dashboard signals other EAs via NEWS_TRADE_BLOCK_UNTIL, and compatible EAs react automatically.
Manual trades can't be prevented before execution
If you press Buy or Sell during a lock, MT5 executes first. The dashboard can then immediately detect and close the position if configured to.
Calendar data depends on your broker
It uses the native MT5 economic calendar. Most brokers support it; if your broker disables it, calendar features may be unavailable.
Calendar features don't work in Strategy Tester
The MT5 Strategy Tester does not provide economic calendar data — a MetaTrader limitation.
